Rotary Drum Filters

Drum filtration has been in use for many years, both by the municipal water industry and the commercial fish farming industry as well as for other industrial applications.

Only in the last few years however have units begun to be designed and marketed specifically for the Koi market.

Drum filters represent the most amazing , truly efficient and effective maintenance free mechanical filters ever conceived.

Essentially they trap solids down to micron size, as low as 60 microns, preventing dirt and detritus from entering the biological filter and help to produce amazingly clear water. As the filter screens inside the drum get dirty the electronics inside recognise this and start an automatic wash cycle without any intervention whatsoever.

Incoming pond water passes through to the inside of the large drum which has stainless steel screens enclosing the drum - so the incoming water must pass through the screens on its way to the next stage of the filter. As it does so, all the dirt is left on the screen. As and when the screens starts to get blocked, a wash cycle is started and high pressure water jets wash off the screen from the outside, washing all the accumulated dirt into a special trap inside the drum, where it is led to waste. The drum and screens also rotate to ensure complete and precise washing of the screen at each cleaning cycle. The wash process is completely automatic, but can also be manually controlled, and with some models set to wash at specific time intervals as well.

Aquaforte Rotary Drum Filters

The Aquaforte Drum filter is designed as a pre-filter for larger ponds and will easily handle ponds of up to 12,000 gallons or more. It features - Individual, exchangeable, screen elements of 60 micron - Max. flow 25m³/h, injection moulded housing made of HDPE, 48VDC motor, Suited for both pump fed and gravity fed operation, 2 x 110mm inlet, 2 x 110mm outlet and tiny footprint - Size (L x W x H): 47 x 57 x 43 cm. Size incl. connections and motor: 50 x 70 x 43cm. But the best thing is the price!  

The Aquaforte Dum Filter is supplied with a professional, software based controller and it will clean either using mains water pressure (simply connect a hose pipe) or an optionally available pressure pump (recommended) to clean the filter as part of the automated backwash cycle. The Aquaforte Drum Filter has a low installation height of just 10cm above the water level and is a perfect solution for those wishing to install an affordable drum filter.
The drum filter has two 110mm Inlet connections and two 110mm outlet connections for connecting multiple pumps or for gravity exit into a bio chamber. The waste outlet is also 110mm in size.
The Aqua Forte Drum Filter can accommodate flow rates up to 25m³/h (5500 gallons per hour), and the controller with it's custom software contains many safety options and functions including motor slow start, motor amp protection, manual cleaning button and standard hourly cleaning etc.

Ilex 20 Drum filter

Ilex Drum filters are made from high quality materials designed to last, including a quality drive motor, flush pump and sophisticated control functions.

The Ilex Drum 20 drum filter has a capacity to pump 20,000 ltrs an hour.

Supplied as standard with 2 x 110 mm inlets and 2 x 110 outlet. Extra inlets or outlets are available on request.

This drum filter is a mechanical pre-filter that easily removes very fine pollution (up to 70 microns) from a water flow. Ideal for smaller ponds or Quarantine set ups. The filter consists of high-quality materials such as stainless steel and polypropylene and aims to ensure perfect water quality in a simple and reliable way.

The screen is 70 micron and has an extremely high water contact surface of over 80%! The waste chute consists of a sloping gutter with a 110mm connection. The high-pressure pump to rinse the screen is a 4 bar high-pressure pump from Oase with a 3-year warranty, which is included as standard This drum filter comes complete with lid, electronics with dry running protection . Manual wash can also be performed.

Drum dimensions: diameter 420mm, length is 400mm. Maximum flow: 20m3 per hour with maximum water level in gravity setup.

Burtons Drum filters

The Burtons Drum filter range cater for the smallest to the very largest of ponds,and all are manufactured in the UK and represent a high quality product range that have been well designed and thought out to ensure reliability and long life.

As standard across the Burtons range, these drums come with 60-micron screens, and a sophisticated digital controller, which now comes complete with a bespoke socket panel as standard which means up to two UVs and two pumps can be connected straight in to the sockets for easy installation. This also means that in the event of a drum failure, the pumps and UVs will be automatically switched off. All drum filters in the range are fitted with a micro switch under the lid, which cuts power to the drum motor and UVs when the lid is lifted off. Low wattage DC wash pumps are included and pre fitted. Direct drive DC drive motors are also fitted accross the range as standard All drums in the range are designed to have 2 x submersible Uvs fitted internally. As well as preventing green water Uvs inside the drum help to keep the drum screen clean by preventing the build up of carbonate deposits and bio film resulting in less cleaning. If the correct size Uv is added there’s no need for additional Uvs to be fitted either.

Oase Rotary Drum Filters

There are now four models in the Oase range, the largest, the Profi Clear Premium XL is designed as a pre-filter for very large ponds and will easily handle bodies of water of up to 55,000 gallons or more. The Biotec Premium is a self contained filter system featuring biological as well as mechanical filtration and is designed as a complete filter system for smaller ponds. The Proficlear Premium Compact M Drum is the smallest drum filter in the Oase range and is designed as a complete filter system for small to medium sized ponds and features the Helix biological moving bed media technology. With this model the volume of biological media can be increased to match the fish population. The mid range Profi Premium DF-L is a mechanical pre-filter only and is designed for ponds up to around 12,000 gallons.
